Why study at the University of Dhaka?

'The University of Dhaka is the oldest university in Bangladesh. Established in 1921, it has made significant contributions to the modern history of Bangladesh. After the Partition of India, it became the focal point of progressive and democratic movements in Pakistan. Its students and teachers played a central role in the rise of Bengali nationalism and the independence of Bangladesh.

'The university's distinguished alumni include Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh; Fazlur Rahman Khan, the "Einstein of structural engineering"; and Muhammad Yunus, winner of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize. Today, it is the largest public university in Bangladesh, with a student body of more than 33,000 and a faculty of more than 1,800.'

The scholarship

  • One scholarship is available, starting in July 2018.
  • The scholarship provides full tuition fees, a return economy flight, an arrival allowance and a regular stipend (living allowance).
  • The scholarship is for Master's study only and is not applicable to a distance learning course.
  • The scholarship is for a new student only and cannot be used to fund a course you have already started.
  • No additional funding will be provided for applicants with families.
  • The scholarship is for a maximum of two years or the length of the course, whichever is shorter.

Support for Commonwealth Scholars

The university supports international students with mentoring, accommodation support and social events.

  • Applicants must be a citizen of a Commonwealth country other than Bangladesh.
  • Applicants must hold a Bachelors degree of at least upper second level.

As well as the application form, applicants must submit the following:

  • High school certificates
  • Undergraduate transcripts and graduation certificate
  • At least one academic reference
  • Scan of passport or national ID card
  • Proof of English language ability if English is not your first language
  • University offer letter for the course you have applied for if you already have one
