ACU Global Summer School Grants for UK undergraduates

The ACU offered 20 grants of up to £2,000 each for undergraduate students from ACU member universities in the UK to attend a summer school during summer 2018.

Participating in one of these summer schools is a great way for students to gain international experience, learn new skills, increase their intercultural understanding, network, and have fun while visiting an ACU member institution overseas.

The grants are offered thanks to the kind legacy of Major Harold William Paxton.

Applications are now closed, and successful candidates will be notified by the end of March 2018.

The grants

The maximum grant amount is £2,000 GBP. This is intended to contribute to registration fees, travel to and from the summer school, and visa and vaccination costs. Successful applicants are responsible for arranging their own flights, registering for the summer school in question, and making their own visa and vaccination arrangements.

The total cost of flights plus registration fees will exceed £2,000 for some of the summer schools, so applicants should carefully check the costs for each school using a currency converter, such as XE (

Successful applicants will be required to submit a short written report about their experience to the ACU within a month of their return. Twenty grants are available in 2018.

Applications are closed

Students submitted an internal application form to their university's International Office by Friday 16 February 2018. After an internal selection process, the International Office nominated up to two candidates per institution to the ACU by 5 March 2018. The ACU carried out the final round of selections. Successful candidates will be notified by the end of March and will then be required to register for their choice of summer school.
