ACU Global Summer School Grants for UK undergraduates

The ACU will be offering 20 grants of up to £2,000 each for undergraduate students from ACU member universities in the UK to attend a summer school during summer 2019. The grants are offered thanks to the kind legacy of Major Harold William Paxton.

Participating in one of these summer schools is a great way for students to gain international experience, learn new skills, increase their intercultural understanding, network, and have fun while visiting an ACU member institution overseas.

One of last year's recipients travelled from London to South Africa, commenting:

'My summer school at Stellenbosch was an amazing opportunity! I left having learned a whole lot about South Africa as a nation and place, with a group of new international friends and a desire to see more of the world.'

The 2018 grants

In 2018, students travelled to summer schools at these universities thanks to the grants:

  • Kyambogo University, Uganda
  • Lovely Professional University, India
  • Stellenbosch University, South Africa
  • University of Alberta, Canada
  • University of Ibadan, Nigeria
  • University of Malaya, Malaysia

The grants are intended to provide opportunities for students from groups who are under-represented among people taking part in international mobility experiences. Full details of the criteria will be provided when applications open.

The grants

The maximum grant amount is £2,000 GBP. This is intended to contribute to registration fees, travel to and from the summer school, and visa and vaccination costs. Successful applicants are responsible for arranging their own flights, registering for the summer school in question, and making their own visa and vaccination arrangements.

Applications will open in January 2019. For enquiries or to register your interest as a participant or a host institution, please email [email protected]
