ACU launches new grant to support sustainable urbanisation in the Commonwealth

The ACU, through the Commonwealth Sustainable Cities Coalition (CSCC) funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), launches a new grant exclusively for ACU members to contribute to a pilot programme on sustainable urbanisation.

As part of the CSCC’s new pilot programme on sustainable urbanisation in the Commonwealth, managed by the ACU, we are excited to open today applications for a new ACU grant that will contribute to the objectives of the recently launched ACU Sustainable Urbanisation Expert Group.

The ACU has convened the Sustainable Urbanisation Expert Group to explore the cross-cutting issue of skills development in the thematic areas of the CSCC Action Groups - Housing, Integrated Planning and Urban Finance - with a specific focus on the role of higher education in supporting context relevant knowledge, competencies and training in the built environment.

The grant will fund the delivery of a rapid scoping study to identify innovative HE teaching and research in the built environment within the Commonwealth, followed by an online workshop to CSCC programme stakeholders.

The grant amount is up to GBP 12,000 and the project can be delivered by an individual or team at an ACU member university.

Insights from the scoping study and workshop will practically inform the three CSCC Action Groups, particularly in relation to the drivers affecting alignment of higher education provision with policy and professional practice.

This grant will advance the objective of the ACU Sustainable Urbanisation Expert Group to demonstrate the key role of higher education in advancing sustainable urbanisation.
