The ACU is recruiting five research consultants to inform CLARE’s research capacity-strengthening strategy

The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is recruiting five research consultants. The roles will support a mapping and data collection process to inform CLARE’s research capacity-strengthening strategy in order to address the most urgent priorities concerning climate change adaptation in the African and Asian-Pacific regions.

Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CLARE) is an initiative, developed by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in collaboration with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) in Canada, to accelerate the delivery of new and improved knowledge, data, and tools focused on tackling climate change adaptation and resilience problems in Africa and the Asia-Pacific region.

One position is available in each of the following locations:

  • North Africa
  • West Africa
  • East and Southern Africa
  • South and Southeast Asia
  • South Pacific

Skills and experience

The research consultant should demonstrate:

  • good academic track record and evidence of strong research skills
  • understanding of research capacity-strengthening processes, their purpose, as well their impact in one or more of the following geographical regions: North Africa, West Africa, Southern and East Africa, South and Southeast Asia, the South Pacific region.
  • ability to network and perform outreach activities; specifically, to identify and connect with relevant stakeholders working in the field of research capacity-strengthening 
  • experience of prioritising a varied workload and evidence of working to strict deadlines in a fast-paced research environment

Key information & eligibility

A total of £13,500 GBP (inclusive of taxes) will be payable to each consultant recruited.

Selected consultants must be available to complete the work within the allocated timeframe.

  • Cover letter: demonstrating knowledge, interest or awareness of capacity-strengthening initiatives in the selected regions, and beyond
  • CV: outlining a detailed list of publications (both academic and non-academic) along with evidence of prior experience of conducting international/national research projects
  • Workplan and budget: detailing the number of days allocated to each activity and day rate in Pound Sterling (GBP)
