ACU members are invited to join us for a two-day conference focusing on the changing roles of librarians in a time of global disruption. The ACU is pleased to be partnering with the University of Johannesburg’s library for their virtual conference ‘FROM ZERO TO HERO: Rising to the challenge in a time of crisis’, on 14-15 September.

The COVID-19 pandemic is disrupting the education sector and the world over. In recent months, librarians have gone from knowing zero, or very little, to mastering new technologies, trends and techniques in teaching, research, and information support to assist the digital initiatives of their institutions.

FROM ZERO TO HERO’ will feature panel discussions from expert speakers and interactive workshop sessions providing participants with tools, examples, and practical tips on implementing ideas, techniques, and technologies in their institutions. It is a celebration of the resilience, ability to adapt, and the amazing work of librarians who have supported staff and students in their institutions in the many seen and unseen ways.

The conference will provide a space to share experiences, successes, and challenges to support each other and exchange ideas.

There will be six sub-themes which examine the impact of COVID-19 and the post-COVID-19 world:

  1. 4IR technologies and libraries
  2. Shifts and changes in the research landscape
  3. Open access and libraries in the global financial crisis
  4. Shifts and opportunities in remote teaching and learning
  5. Digital scholarship and its central role in the online world
  6. Leading a workforce of the future
