Research and Policy Analysis

The ACU undertakes a wide range of research and policy analysis. Its research services address a number of the ACU's strategic aims and contribute to existing discourse within the sector, as well as leading debate through new research.

The research and analysis of the ACU ranges from in-depth reports and surveys to more succinct briefings and overviews. Recent analysis has focused on the key challenges confronting universities in the Commonwealth, the development of university libraries and information management, the participation of women in senior management, administration and academic positions, the impact of international trade in higher education and trends in academic pay and academic recruitment and retention.

The ACU is well placed to analyse international comparative trends and assess policy issues across and beyond the Commonwealth. The ACU produces a monthly electronic newsletter for member vice-chancellors which provides brief up-to-date analysis on international policy developments and trends.

In addition to its core research services aimed at informing and supporting the work of its member institutions, the ACU runs a successful higher education management benchmarking programme. This programme is designed for senior higher education administrators and practitioners and covers strategic areas of university management and leadership. The ACU's research team is also happy to provide research services and undertake commissioned projects on behalf of external organisations, drawing on our in-house expertise and experience of international higher education. We are active in a number of external research contracts and the consultancy pages highlight some of our current and past projects.
