Publishers for Development (PfD) was launched in 2008 and is a joint initiative of the ACU and INASP (the International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications).
Publishers play an important role in contributing to high quality library and information services. They are also a vital component in the global research communication cycle, especially in encouraging the wider dissemination of research and ideas from all members of the international scientific and academic community in which developing country research is currently under-represented.
PfD is principally a forum for information and discussion around the importance of access to information for development, aimed at the academic publishing community. Through it we plan to explore some of the unique challenges facing developing country researchers, librarians and research institutions, and also the experiences of publishers in working with developing country colleagues. PfD will also provide an opportunity for publishers to stay up-to-date on developments in this area, and to offer their own input and feedback on these issues.
