Welcome to the web pages of the ACU Human Resource Management Network

The network forms part of a strategy to ensure the ACU's relevance to all levels of its member institutions. For many years, the Association's main point of contact with its members was at the level of the Executive Head, where it continues to perform a valuable function in sharing good practice. As universities become more complex and professional in their outlook, however, there is a clear need for similar structures on a more specialist level.

This is especially so in the field of Human Resource Management (HR). Organisations of all kinds often declare that 'people are their most valuable resource' – but motivating, rewarding and getting the best from employees, in an age of declining real resources and increasing competition between universities, has never been more complex.

Comparing good practice internationally can play a vital role in this process, and the ACU is well placed to facilitate this. Our 500 member universities embrace both similarity and diversity; a range of experiences from which even the most experienced human resources professional can benefit. Critically, too, we have the means to harness this information.

Network activities are guided by a Steering Committee which includes representatives from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Africa, the West Indies and the United Kingdom.
