Call for Submissions: DelPHE Round 5

The Development Partnerships in Higher Education (DelPHE) programme launched its fifth call for applications in September 2009. Application deadlines fall in early 2010. Please click here for more information on applying to DelPHE Round 5

What is DelPHE?

Development Partnerships in Higher Education (DelPHE) is a £3 million per annum programme supporting partnerships between universities to address the UN's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The British Council works in partnership with the UK's Department for International Development to co-manage the DelPHE programme, with the support of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

The principal aim of DelPHE is to help higher education institutions to contribute to poverty reduction and sustainable development in their home countries and regions. HEIs in 22 target countries are eligible to lead applications for DelPHE, whilst HEIs in any country are eligible to participate as partners. Partnership teams can apply for between £15,000 and £50,000 per year for three years to support their collaborative projects.

What is the ACU's role?

The ACU particularly encourages south-south collaborations, through providing support to project developers over the course of drafting their proposals and in matching partner interests. If you are considering developing a south-south DelPHE application, please contact us, and visit our Brokering Partnerships and Mentoring Applications pages.

The ACU University Extension Network was also developed as part of our role in support of DelPHE. The network comprises nearly 450 university staff working in the fields of extension, community engagement, and knowledge mobilisation, which is designed to assist DelPHE partners in helping to disseminate project outcomes to local communities. Please click here to learn more about the ACU University Extension Network.

What are the outcomes?

It is expected that successful projects will live on beyond the period of DelPHE funding and will continue to address MDGs in the home country and region. Partnerships should aim to deliver specific results in the following areas:

  •          Joint research studies/publications which may then be fed into wider policy reform
  •          Revisions to, or development of, new courses which are relevant to country needs
  •          Professional development and staff training
  •          Increased practical support for gender parity
  •          Improved networking between partner HEIs
  •          Improved management and administration within institutions in the focus countries.
